Project Description

The period of project implementation is from 1 April 2018 until 31 December 2020. The project’s objective is to create in seven municipalities of the Słupsk District (Kobylnica, Damnica, Główczyce, Słupsk, Ustka, Kępice, Potęgowo) as well as in one municipality of the Bytów District (Tuchomie) an integrated, local system of social services consisting of distance (online) information technologies (telecare), home rehabilitation, neighbourhood care services, training courses and preventive care workshops as well as instruments of environmental activation by means of creating Senior Citizen Councils and promotion of senior citizen voluntary services.

Each of the participating municipalities hosted a Silver Senior Citizen Picnic. Apart from the 920 senior citizens, the event drew the participation of residents from local communities. At the events, the main concept behind the project and its objectives were introduced and the initiatives for the benefit of senior citizens were presented, that is the online care services, home rehabilitation, preventive health care. There was also information given on how to form Senior Citizen Councils as well as on the possibility of getting involved in the activities of the Senior Citizen Voluntary Services. Senior citizen counselling services as well as the Silver Helpline were promoted.

From September 2018, senior citizens can make use of telecare services offered by the Polish Care Centre in Gdynia. The beneficiaries were equipped with sets consisting of a mobile phone with SIM card and an SOS wristband.

In the event of life-threatening and medical emergencies, the elderly citizen presses the SOS button that connects them directly with the all-hours Monitoring Centre, which initiates the rescue procedure (ambulance services, police, the fire department). Telecare requires the creation of self-help neighbourhood community groups. Senior citizens are safe and don’t feel isolated.
