Project Description

Project description:

Sopot – development of watersports and sailing tourism opportunities

A new watersports and sailing infrastructure will come into existence in Sopot. The project will be co-financed from EU funds of the Regional Operational Programme of the Pomorskie Voivodeship for the years 2014-2020.

The project is being implemented as part of a strategic enterprise coordinated by the Office of the Marshal of the Pomorskie Voivodeship, under the title Development of nautical and maritime tourism in the areas of the uawy Loop [Ptla uawska] and the Gdask Bay. It includes an incredibly attractive area of the Vistula River Delta, Vistula Lagoon and the Gdask Bay together with the Bay of Puck.

The aim of the strategic enterprise is to create a branded and integrated product in the area of nautical and maritime tourism. A network of harbours and yacht marinas will be created, that offer a cohesive and comprehensive tourist package, providing the nautical tourist with a choice of short-term docking alongside the quay or stopping for an interval of several hours.

In Sopot the project anticipates the construction of a floating jetty adjoining the side spur of the pier. It will be 108 m long, sufficient for the construction of additional 28 berths in the Marina. It will accommodate mooring of vessels up to 12m long. The jetty will be supplied with water and electricity services as well as a CCTV video surveillance system. As part of the project the fairway depth is to be increased, to allow vessels a safe access to the jetty. A pavilion of approx. 19m2 will be constructed on the southern breakwater of the pier. It will serve as a bathroom, a changing room and as equipment storage space. Building alterations will be carried out to the launching slipway at beach entrance No. 40.

The project implementation will improve accessibility of mooring infrastructure to tourists and those attending sailing courses. It will increase the number of mooring berths by 27.2%, from 103 to 131 at the Marina. The implementation of the project will result in the Sopot Marina becoming the second-largest marina in the Pomorskie Voivodeship, after Gdynia. At the same time, in order to provide the vessels with safe passage of adequate depth and width

as well as to enable them to moor alongside the jetty, the fairway leading up to the jetty will be deepened. The pavilion construction will meet the basic requirements of the floating jetty users as well as improve the efficiency of organizing events and regattas. Building alterations to the launching slipway at beach entrance No. 40 will restore its proper functioning so as to facilitate the safeguarding of tourist traffic in the Gdask Bay by the Sopot WOPR [Water Volunteer Ambulance Service]. This will increase the safety during launching and landing vessels on shore.
