Project Description

The aim of the project implemented by the Gdańsk University of Technology is to improve the quality of education and to adapt the available educational options to the requirements of companies operating in the electrical power systems engineering, power systems engineering, chemical technology and chemical engineering (incl. fuels manufacture), by means of establishing a post-graduate level study course with a practical profile, called Engineering and Energy Carriers Technologies.

The project included constructing and furnishing a new wing of the „Chemia C” building to accommodate laboratories and teaching rooms, workshop and computer laboratories, an auditorium and rest & refreshment facilities. All the teaching rooms were furnished with tables and chairs; the auditorium was equipped with boards and multimedia equipment in the form of projectors, a multimedia board and a sound system for the room with integrated lighting and shading and control system; the laboratories were equipped with fume hoods and sanitary facilities with a set of devices necessary for its start-up and operation.

It is worth noting that the extended infrastructure is adapted to the needs of people with physical disabilities.

In the new „Chemia C” building, the scientific staff of the Gdańsk University of Technology and students have at their disposal, among others:

  • Auditorium for 135 people – lecture hall with multimedia equipment, dedicated storage room,
  • Laboratory of Energy Carriers Processing Technologies with installations on a quarter – and a semi-technical scale,
  • Laboratory for Surface Studies of Materials (2 rooms with natural lighting),
  • Laboratory 1 – a laboratory for laboratory classes in the following subjects: Corrosion-Prevention Technologies and Electroplating (production and studies of metal coats, normative tests)
  • Laboratory 2 – a laboratory for electro-chemical corrosion studies and metal and alloys corrosion; as well as a preparatory lab with permanently fitted apparatus and apliances (scales, water distiller, etc.) and a specially designated space for the preparation of solutions and handling dangerous substances; also used for working on the experimental stages of diploma dissertations,
  • Laboratory of Molecular Biology working in the following fields: General Microbiology, Industrial Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Basic Engineering, Engineering II, Molecular Diagnostics, Amplification Techniques,
  • Laboratory of Renewable Energy Sources in the thematic scope: research of resources, possibilities of obtaining, converting, storing and transporting energy from renewable sources, possibilities of recovering waste energy in industrial processes and ways of its management, developing technological processes of material recycling,
  • individual work places for students.

The project will significantly strengthen the role of Gdańsk University of Technology as a university and prepare it to play a key role in the process of creating a competitive regional economy.
