Results of the enterprise

The projects objective is the protection of biodiversity, implementation of comprehensive enterprises serving to protect water resources and an upgrade of biologically active zones within the City of Malbork as well as the City and Municipality of Sztum, which are the two main urban centres of the Functional Urban Area Malbork-Sztum – (FUA Malbork-Sztum).

 

Benefits for the residents

Malbork:

– ecological restoration according to habitat: linear (hedges) and clustered plantings of native species of melliferous and fruit-bearing shrubs, restoration of wildflower-rich grasslands using common meadow wild-flower species, installation of insect hotels,

– protecting the area from excessive and uncontrolled visitor impact by means of redevelopment of the existing road system, including construction of pedestrian and bicycle paths along with restoring their historical course.

 

Sztum:

– plantings of trees and shrubs and lawn restoration adjacent to the path,

– protecting the area from excessive and uncontrolled visitor impact: construction of shared-use paths for cyclists and pedestrians, installing LED lighting along the path, installing of ecological information boards, educational games, street furniture elements,

– creating sites for birds, insects and bats

 

Environment friendly project

 

Results of the enterprise implementation:

– limiting the impacts of urbanization,

– regulation and orderly arrangement of vegetation,

– improvement in the condition of valuable species and habitats through plantings of vegetation,

– strategies for improving conditions that foster life of animal species (mainly birds, insects and bats),

– elimination of alien species,

– improving the quality of surface water resources by means of reducing runoff from agricultural land,

– regulation and orderly arrangement of the area as well as providing it with new functions by means of development of appropriate infrastructure and elements of street furniture.
