Project Description
The Self-Government of the Pomorskie Voivodeship purchased a total of 10 new trains of 45WE type – five-car electric multiple units from the „Impuls” family of vehicles. The purchased new vehicles replaced worn out and unsatisfactory vehicles of EN57 series. Traffic analyses carried out within the framework of the Feasibility Study, prepared in accordance with the guidelines of the Regional Operational Programme of the Pomorskie Voivodeship for the years 2014-2020, showed that the purchase of new vehicles for regional rail transport connections will positively affect the quality of passenger service and attractiveness of public transport. All the 10 Impulses produced by NEWAG S.A., which run on the territory of the voivodeship, were accepted in the period from 4 December 2018 to 18 February 2020. Each of the trains has 225 seats, including 30 tiltable seats; there are also dedicated seats for people with reduced mobility and wheelchairs. In addition, there are 20 seats for bicycles and two toilets, including one for the disabled. The passenger compartments are air-conditioned and have Wi-Fi access. The vehicles can reach speeds up to 160 km/h.
The Electric Multiple Units of Impuls family are low-floor vehicles with a single-space interior, equipped with full interior surveillance, air conditioning and a modern passenger information system. The low floor allows for easy entry and exit. The interior is adapted to transport people with reduced mobility – there are driveways (ramps), extendable steps, wide passages, a place to transport bicycles and wheelchairs and a number of facilities for people with disabilities. The modern toilets have hermetic circulation, in accordance with the requirements of Technical Specifications of Interoperability (TSI). High travel comfort is ensured by a modern gear system and efficient air conditioning and heating with automatic control; optimal traction properties are possible by using three-phase asynchronous motors and recuperation of energy to the overhead line during braking. The five-car Impuls 45WE is one of the most modern vehicles of this type, produced by NEWAG S.A. in Nowy Sącz; it is compliant with TSI, the latest restrictive European standards. The Impuls trains are manufactured in several variants; they differ in the number of cars and purpose. There are 2-car (type 37WE), 3-car (36WE), 4-car (31WE), 5-car (45WE) and 6-car (35WE) configurations. By the end of 2018, 167 Impulses were ordered.
It is interesting to know that on the night of August 28-29, 2015, Impuls 45WE-010 for the Mazovian Railways set a speed record of 225.2 km/h on the test track and is the fastest passenger vehicle produced in Poland so far. The 45WE units for Mazovian Railways were also the first Impulses meeting all the requirements ofTechnical Specification for Interoperability (TSI).
