Project Description
The subject matter of the project is the creation within the area of the Municipality of Gdynia of the international cycle route R10 running from the Gdynia-Kosakowo border to the Gdynia-Sopot border and being a part of the international cycle route R10.
The route R10, which in Gdynia is to be about 19 km long, will serve to develop the tourism potential of not only Gdynia, but also the entire Pomorskie Region. The project will be executed with the support from EU funds in the amount of PLN 8.2 million as part of the Regional Operational Programme for the Pomeranian Voivodeship 2014-2020. The project execution takes place in the years 2017 to 2020.
Construction of a coherent direct route assumes that Gdynia will be connected by bike paths with adjacent communes which will allow to cover a long distance by bike comfortably and to build a comprehensive tourist offer and a unique tourism product both for residents of Gdynia and the region and for tourists arriving here.
Improved Cycling Infrastructure Quality
As part of the project, a total of about 3.49 km bike paths will be built along the following stretches:
- along Płk. Dąbka St. from Derdowskiego St. to Kwiatkowskiego St.,
- along Kwiatkowskiego St. from Płk. Dąbka St. to Unruga St.,
- along Waszyngtona St. from Pułaskiego St. to Skwer Kościuszki St.,
- along Nadmorski Blvd. and Piłsudskiego Av. (stretch completed),
- along Zwycięstwa Av. within the area of the intersection with Stryjska St. (stretch in progress),
- along Zwycięstwa Av. from Kościelna St. to Orłowska St. (stretch in progress),
- along Orłowska St. from Nowe Orłowo housing estate to the municipal parking lot (stretch completed).
It is also planned to renovate three stretches of the existing bike path of the total length of about 1.08 km:
- along Nadmorski Blvd. from the Polish Navy Museum to Browar Port Gdynia (stretch completed),
- along Piłsudskiego St. from Tetmajera St. to Bema St. (stretch completed),
- along Zwycięstwa Av. from Stryjska St. to Kościelna St.
The project includes also designation of a total of about 1.37 km lanes for bicycle traffic within roadways:
- within the area of Skwer Kościuszki St., Borchardta St., Armii Krajowej St. and Zawiszy Czarnego St.,
- as part of Piłsudskiego Av. from Nadmorski Blvd. in the vicinity of the Skwer Arki Gdynia municipal park to Tetmajera St. (stretch completed),
- as part of Świętojańska St. from Skwer Plymouth St. to Partyzantów St. (stretch completed).
There are 9.25 km of existing bike path stretches in Gdynia meant to become a part of the R10 route. Irrespective of the project, stretches of about 3.95 km will be renovated and designated.
The project includes also plans to build five bike parking lots along with objects of small architecture located, as follows: in Janka Wiśniewskiego St., at Węzeł Ofiar Grudnia 70′, in Nadmorski Blvd. (parking lot completed), at the Pier in Orłowo and in the Kolibki Park. Two cyclist counting devices will be purchased and the existing one moved near the route. As part of the project, plan include also the marking of particular stretches.
Noticeable Results
Bike path remodelling resulting in the improvement of the paths’ technical condition and their meeting international requirements will make travelling there safer and more comfortable. The supported actions as a whole will contribute to the improvement of urban space quality and social activation and will open new possibilities for spending free time.
